Region in Greece before 1987 consisting of the five nomói (departments) now in the region of Central Greece together with Aetolia & Acarnania, which became part of Western Greece in 1987, and Attica, which became a single-department region in that year.   The region as a whole formed the north of the newly independent Greece of 1830.
