CASTELLÓN CASTELLÓ (Catalan).
Coastal province (CS) in eastern Spain, named after its capital, Castellón de la Plana. It was formed from the province and former kingdom of Valencia in 1833, and is now the northern province in the Community of Valencia.
It lay in the region that was gained by the Cid in the 1090s, though it soon reverted to Muslim control. The city was finally taken by Aragón in 1233.
