Borough and unitary authority in southeastern Wales, formed in 1996 from all but the southeast of the former Ogwr district in the county of Mid Glamorgan.   The unitary authority, which lies between Neath-Port Talbot to the west and Vale of Glamorgan to the southeast, includes Maesteg in the valleys and Porthcawl on the coast.

The town of Bridgend is called Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr in Welsh, the Ogwr or Ogmore being the river on which it stands.
