A County in the northeastern Harz (the town of Blankenburg is southwest of Halberstadt).   It was closely associated with the County of REGENSTEIN, but in the 17th century it came into the hands of the Dukes of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, thereafter forming a detached part of the Duchy.   In 1945 it was placed of the Soviet Zone, and is now in the Land of Sachsen-Anhalt.
