BELLEY

Town in eastern France, west of Aix-les-Bains and northwest of Chambéry, once the capital of the Imperial County of BUGEY and still the see of a Bishop.   The early Counts of Savoy were Counts of Belley, holding a smaller territory than the area later called Bugey.   The present diocese is formed by the territory of the Department of the Ain
