Beira Baixa


BEIRA BAIXA   Lower Beira.

New province during the Salazarist era (1930s-early 1970s) in central Portugal, bordering on Spain and north of the Tejo.   It had been the southeast of the old province of Beira and was similar in extent to the district of Castelo Branco.
