Beira Alta


BEIRA ALTA   Upper Beira.

New province during the Salazarist era (1930s-early 1970s) in northeast central Portugal.   Its territory had been the northeast of the old province of Beira, mountainous, and similar in area to the administrative districts of Viseu and Guarda.
