Bardengau

BARDENGAU

District in northeastern (Lower) Saxony in the early middle ages, drained by the River Ilmenau, a left-bank tributary of the lower Elbe.   The main town of Bardowick was once an important commercial centre, but it was overtaken in importance by the castle and town of Lüneburg to the south.
